Literacy activities on Study ladder

Everyone has a new personal login and password to studdyladder.
Each group has 4 or 5 tasks to complete. They can be done in class time when your group has eLiteracy or you can work on them at home.
If you are in room 3 for maths there are activities set for you as well -but you have to use your maths login.

The photography challenge.

This week we have been assigned to a photography challenge. The students had to learn and use the rule of thirds in their  two photos within the school grounds. If you didn't know the rule of thirds it is... if you were to have a grid on your camera while you were taking your photo ( which we actually had for planning, ) you would not put your main focus in the center of your grid screen ( which again most peoples gut instinct would jump to do. ) Instead you would put in the corner somewhere for maximum effect and then you could get some detail on where you are, who you are with, etc. That's it! Pretty complicated to explain, but if you try it you will get the hang of it. Same as every new thing you try.The winner of the challenge will win an ipod touch!!!! This competition is open to anyone so you can compete. Go on, get snapping!


We also learned about angles of the camera, getting lower for a tower effect on the object or up high for a birds-eye-view over your centerpiece.

In loving memory of Mischief Frederick Coxwood ( the ladybug, ) who is flying to the top of the class with his kind heart and budding talent. He is resting in our school gardens peacefully with all our love and care.

House Captain assembly:

On Thursday the 17th of March we had a very special assembly because  this assembly was the one when we choose the house captains. The people that got chosen to do their speeches from our class were Jordana, Grace, Aimee and Lauren.We all did very well! But we are all wondering who are going to be the house captains.We are supposed to find out today.We all have our fingers crossed!!!!

What the most interesting thing we have done in the past week in my opinion....

02-03-11.
Over the past week, in my opinion, the two most interesting things were.... 
When we had Mr Deacon. He gave us a poem, then we had to get into groups of three. We had to decide on our parts -(with some people it took a debate!) We practiced our little hearts out until we got it right!
After everyone was ready we had our own little concert, showing off our wonderful talents. We all had some laughs!!  :)
The other thing that was cool was with Mrs McRobert. We had to write a re-count about what we did in the weekend. First we had to write up a plan for our re-count,  in the plan we had to include the "when,what,why,who and how". We also needed to come up with three events and put a star* next to the event we were going to describe the most. Another thing we had to do was come up with six descriptive  words we would use in our re-count.
Lastly we needed to come up with our conclusion, so we wouldn't babble on forever!
After all that we had to write our re-count with detail and description.
We had many other things to rave about at the end of this week all because of our wonderful teacher, the one and only Mrs McRobert!!!   By Jordana.

Basketball training with Mike from the Nelson Giants.

On Monday 21st of February we had basketball training with Mike from the Nelson Giants basketball team. We worked with him from 11:45 until 12:20. The class learnt basketball skills such as the Long Drop, the Egg Beater and the Nutcracker as well as a easy way to shoot perfectly. It involved making your arm a giraffe's neck and flicking your wrist, then pointing your fingers downwards which, makes the ball fly high  above your head while spinning and falling into the net. He also taught us the proper way to dribble, including how to dribble down by your knees, with your left hand, right hand, with two balls and how to dribble while flicking the ball between both hands. He gave us some things to practice at home and made us do push -ups!!! We had  ball! (He he!) We are very  thankful for this brilliant experience! Thanks Mike!!! :)

2011 Woo Hoo!!!

Hi,
Welcome to room 3/ 13 in 2011. Our year will start in room 13 while we wait for our pretty new classroom to be ready for us. Then we will move out and back into room 3!
I'm looking forward to having a great year with those I know well and those I only know a little!

I hope you are ready for a BUSY year!
